Being a real estate agent is the easiest low paid job or the hardest high paid job.<\/p>\n

In an\u00a0earlier post<\/a>, Brian Cannan listed the things you need to do to be a real estate professional.\u00a0 They included:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Securing a mentor<\/li>\n
  2. Getting to know the marketplace<\/li>\n
  3. Always be learning<\/li>\n
  4. Build relationships<\/li>\n
  5. Work on your brand<\/li>\n
  6. Get on top of data<\/li>\n
  7. Work hard<\/li>\n
  8. Be consistent<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    There are many short cuts you can take along the way as you build your business but my advice is to ignore them.<\/p>\n

    There are no shortcuts to success.<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Every time I see an agent struggle with a lack of listings, no buyers, the phones not ringing and the multitude of other \u2018dry gullies\u2019 that frustrate us all, the words of a very wise man ring out in my ears.\u00a0 It is some advice he gave me many years ago when I was struggling.<\/p>\n

    I remember the situation well.\u00a0 I was sitting in the office worrying about how I was going to be able to pay the wages.\u00a0 Things looked bleak.\u00a0 Listings were down, settlements were drying up and the cash flow was shocking.\u00a0 Many sleepless nights!<\/p>\n

    So, I called Don who I knew to be very experienced and who had run a successful real estate office with a big team for many years.\u00a0 Surely he must have seen this himself and worked out what to do.\u00a0 I was right.\u00a0 He know exactly what to do and here is what he said\u2026\u2026<\/p>\n

    \u201cThere is not one problem in this business that a listing will not fix.\u00a0 Just focus on getting a listing, then focus on selling it\u201d.<\/p>\n

    \u201cBut it can\u2019t be that (expletive) simple\u201d I said.\u00a0\u00a0 I was wrong!<\/p>\n

    It can be put another way\u2026..<\/p>\n

    No short cuts \u2013 get back to basics!<\/strong><\/p>\n

    This business is all about listing, marketing and negotiating.\u00a0 Do some of each of those every day and you\u00a0will<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0succeed.<\/p>\n
