href=\"https:\/\/www.therealestateconversation.com.au\/2017\/05\/04\/brisbane-be-major-city-within-decade-bernard-salt\/1493860312\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">column<\/a>, Bernard Salt has stated the Brisbane will play catch up over the next decade in its quest to become a major metropolis like Sydney and Melbourne.<br \/>\nIn another <a href=\"http:\/\/brisbanebuyersagent.com.au\/hasnt-brisbane-boomed-like-sydney-melbourne\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">article<\/a>, I explained why the last 10 years for Brisbane has been nothing short of disappointing in terms of growth, in particular capital growth.<br \/>\nI finished my article by saying that although it has been a disappointing decade, there is some light at the end of the tunnel.<br \/>\nAfter reading Salt\u2019s article and then researching and analysing what is on the \u201cTo Do\u201d list here in Brisbane for the next 5 \u2013 10 years, I am growing more optimistic.<br \/>\nThere are billions and billions of dollars in projects in the pipeline that will transform our major employment hubs, entertainment precincts and the way we live.<br \/>\nThis will in turn create thousands of jobs and attract investment and immigration to our capital, the likes of which have been sorely lacking in the last decade.<br \/>\n<b>Major Projects \u2013 Employment Hub Expansion<\/b><br \/>\nPerhaps the biggest and most exciting project planned is the $3billion <b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Queens Wharf Project<\/span><\/b> and expansion of the Brisbane CBD.<br \/>\nThe expansion of our largest Employment Hub.<br \/>\nNot only will it transform our city skyline, but it will provide thousands of jobs during construction and up to 10,000 more upon completion.<br \/>\nImportantly, it is also expected to see a $1.69bil increase in tourism spend, injecting much needed income into the state\u2019s coffers.<br \/>\nThe project includes;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-size: 1.1em\">A feature Skydeck with restaurants and bars<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 1.1em\">5 new hotels (including Brisbane\u2019s first ever 6-star hotel)<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 1.1em\">3 residential towers<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 1.1em\">Approx 50 food and beverage outlets<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 1.1em\">A riverfront moonlight cinema<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 1.1em\">A Hotel and Hospitality School<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/realestatetalk.com.au.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Brisbane-1.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12551 aligncenter\" alt=\"Brisbane 1\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/realestatetalk.com.au.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Brisbane-1.jpg?resize=620%2C349\" width=\"620\" height=\"349\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Brisbane\u2019s second largest employment hub, the <b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Brisbane Airport<\/span><\/b> is also set for a major transformation with $3.8bil being spent on an additional second runway and a commercial precinct.<br \/>\nWhat appears to be a sandpit right now, the Airport precinct will be transformed to have the same capacity as Singapore Airport, a major international city.<br \/>\nThis will see flights soar to 360,000 per year, an increase of 133,000 flights each year and increasing to 500,000 by 2045.<br \/>\nIt will be another shot in the arm for jobs and wages growth throughout the transition.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/realestatetalk.com.au.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/qantas-brisbane-2.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12552 aligncenter\" alt=\"qantas brisbane 2\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/realestatetalk.com.au.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/qantas-brisbane-2.jpg?resize=650%2C366\" width=\"650\" height=\"366\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>While some infrastructure has already been built connecting some parts of the Brisbane CBD to the Airport (in the form of the AirportLink tunnels), works have also commenced for another major route \u2013 <b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Kingsford Smith Drive<\/span><\/b>.<br \/>\n$650million will be spent transforming an awkwardly meandering 4 lane \u201cstreet\u201d into a spacious and speedier 6 lane highway to cater for a major injection of traffic, with the scenic Brisbane River as the focus.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/realestatetalk.com.au.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Kingsford-Smith.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-12553 aligncenter\" alt=\"Kingsford Smith\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/realestatetalk.com.au.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Kingsford-Smith.jpg?resize=675%2C450\" width=\"675\" height=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Brisbane\u2019s <b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Hospitals<\/span><\/b> are also being transformed, with more jobs to be created in health care than any other sector in the next decade or so.<br \/>\nRecent upgrades to the Mater and PA Hospitals are now being followed by a major upgrade and $1.1bil expansion of Royal Brisbane.<br \/>\nIn what has been dubbed the \u201c<i>Herston Quarter<\/i>\u201d, Australian Unity is set to add an additional 12 buildings to the health precinct.<br \/>\nThis will include;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-size: 1.1em\">Specialist Rehabilitation and Care Centre<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 1.1em\">A new Private Hospital including medical and commercial suites<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 1.1em\">Aged Care and Retirement living<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 1.1em\">Research facilities<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 1.1em\">Residential facilities<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 1.1em\">Child care facilities<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 1.1em\">Other upgrades to existing spaces<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Or in other words \u2013 jobs, jobs, jobs!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/realestatetalk.com.au.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/map.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-12554 aligncenter\" alt=\"map\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/realestatetalk.com.au.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/map.jpg?resize=718%2C491\" width=\"718\" height=\"491\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Entertainment Precincts<\/b><br \/>\nProbably the most exciting aspect of Brisbane\u2019s transformation will be the introduction of several new Lifestyle precincts.<br \/>\nOnce again creating more and more jobs, but also ensuring demand for inner city living stays high with a number of exciting projects currently planned.<br \/>\nFirstly, there is further expansion of the Brisbane CBD and the transformation of the <b>Howard Smith Wharves.<\/b><br \/>\nAn estimated $100mil is set to be spent on the revitalisation of this 3.4ha site beneath our iconic Story Bridge that will link the City centre to the New Farm Riverwalk.<br \/>\nThe site will include a 5-star hotel, entertainment area, 1500sqm exhibition space, and parking for about 350 vehicles.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/realestatetalk.com.au.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/brisbane-2.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-12555 aligncenter\" alt=\"brisbane 2\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/realestatetalk.com.au.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/brisbane-2.jpg?resize=717%2C492\" width=\"717\" height=\"492\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The $2.9bil redevelopment of the <b>Brisbane Showgrounds<\/b> is also underway.<br \/>\nThe showgrounds have been home to the famous Ekka and many other events over the last 100 years.<br \/>\nThe newest community will become the vibrant King Street and will have new lease on life with;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-size: 1.1em\">Brand new retail space<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 1.1em\">Laneway Shops<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 1.1em\">Apartments<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 1.1em\">Office buildings<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 1.1em\">Restaurants and bars<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 1.1em\">Green spaces<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/realestatetalk.com.au.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/landscape.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12556 aligncenter\" alt=\"landscape\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/realestatetalk.com.au.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/landscape.jpg?resize=658%2C285\" width=\"658\" height=\"285\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Finally, and probably the most exciting from my perspective is <b>Brisbane Live<\/b>.<br \/>\nThis project is being framed as Australia\u2019s response to Madison Square Garden in New York City.<br \/>\nIt will include;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-size: 1.1em\">A 17,000-seat world class arena for international superstars and sporting events.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 1.1em\">15,000- seat amphitheatre<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 1.1em\">4000 capacity seat rock club<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 1.1em\">Multiplex cinemas<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 1.1em\">Restaurants and bars<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The $450mil arena will be built above Roma Street train lines, making it accessible to everyone in Brisbane via the public transport network.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/realestatetalk.com.au.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Brisbane-3.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12557 aligncenter\" alt=\"Brisbane 3\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/realestatetalk.com.au.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Brisbane-3.jpg?resize=620%2C380\" width=\"620\" height=\"380\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Other major projects on the cards include the on again, off again Cross River Rail, Northbank and a Brisbane Metro Subway system.
